Get ready to discover some valuable tips to close out the year feeling energized and set you up to enter the new year with a refreshed mind and body. Are you ready? Let's go.

Rob Rohde:

As I reflect on past years, I've really come to realize how important it is to prioritize self-care during this specific time of the year, especially as a single dad myself, trying to juggle the demands of both family and business. It struck me how crucial it is to enter the new year, a season that tends to be one of the busiest times of year for me, both personally as well as my business and it actually is a really pivotal time for my business and it's important that I enter this time of year in a state of being refreshed, rested and re-energized. So I began to think what if I approach the entry into the new year with a strategic focus on self-care? And that's what we're going to dive into today. I'm going to share three practical ideas you can use to not just enhance but revolutionize your self-care routine. Plus, I'll throw in three mindset shifting tips, because let's be real, the right mindset, that's really the game changer. Let's jump right into some practical ideas you can use Idea number one set realistic self-care goals Instead of aiming for an hour-long daily workout right off the bat, maybe set something a little more achievable, like starting with a 15 minute walk around the block.

Rob Rohde:

Small, consistent steps like this can really lay the foundation for a more sustainable and rewarding self-care routine over time. And remember small, consistent, incremental steps lead to extraordinary results over time. Idea number two delegate responsibilities. So picture this what if, instead of handling all of the post-holiday cleanup yourself, you turned it into more of a family affair? You could assign specific tasks to each family member, turning chores into opportunities for everyone to contribute and to bond. Idea number three Create a transition period. Imagine easing back into your routine with a self-care transition. You could gradually reintroduce activities like meditation or reading, journaling, giving your mind the space to adjust. Maybe start with a few minutes each day and build up as you feel more grounded. So those are three very simple but practical ideas you could use to help you in your self-care routine during this holiday season. Set some realistic self-care goals, delegate responsibilities for things you feel need to be done around the house and create a self-care transition period where you work yourself up to something bigger and greater over time.

Rob Rohde:

And now we're going to talk about three mindset shifts you can make that will really help you in your self-care journey as well. Mindset shift number one embrace imperfections. So think of your self-care routine like a dance there's going to be times when everything is in perfect step and then there's going to be other times when you're just slightly out of rhythm. But guess what? That's okay. Life happens. Your self-care routine needs to be able to adapt and flow to those things that come up in life, and this mindset shift is also about giving yourself grace. Giving yourself grace, knowing that you are trying and you are taking steps in the right direction, and focusing on the progress you're making, as opposed to spending all of your time focusing on the every little misstep or every mistake you make.

Rob Rohde:

Mindset tip number two practice gratitude. Gratitude is a key ingredient in our journey of self-care and specifically, our ability, during a difficult moment or during a rough day, to be able to find something within that space to be grateful for can really just change the momentum of our day and can change our attitude in a positive way. And it doesn't have to be anything huge, it really is just anything that brings you joy. It could be as simple as savoring a quiet cup of coffee in the morning, or even just appreciating a few moments you have in the middle of the day where you are alone and you are in solitude. But whatever that is, taking a moment to practice gratitude and potentially write it down or journal it so you can go back and reflect on it over time can make a huge difference in your mindset. Mindset tip number three is to set realistic expectations. My suggestion here is that, instead of expecting or even trying to do a complete overhaul of your routine overnight, recognize that self-care is a gradual journey. Set the expectations that some days may be busier than others, but that doesn't diminish the importance of those small, intentional self-care moments and trying to do those each and every day. So again, to review three simple mindset tips Number one is to embrace imperfections, number two is to practice gratitude and number three is to set realistic expectations.

Rob Rohde:

Before we close out this episode, I would really like to share a story with you, a story that hit home for me personally and I think it might resonate with you too. I was recently listening to a podcast by a former NFL player named Anthony Trucks, and man did he drop some wisdom? He was talking about how many of us really head into these huge decisions and commitments or set massive goals that we expect to start, you know, as the clock strikes midnight on January 1st. But here's the thing we often stumble into these moments feeling like we've just been run over by a truck. You ever been there Exhausted, maybe even a little bit hungover, wondering why the first weeks of the year feel like this huge uphill battle. Well, anthony compared it to a football game, like a must-win sort of game. Imagine entering that game feeling drained and unprepared. The chances are success was not going to come for you. And that got me thinking what if we treated those significant moments in our lives with the same reverence as an athlete approaching this must-win game?

Rob Rohde:

When we shift our mindset, everything changes. We prepare differently. We treat our bodies with respect, through proper sleep, a balanced diet and regular exercise. We set ourselves up for success because we recognize the importance of starting strong. And here's the connection to us, the business of being that community. As we gear up for a new year, let's remember that we're gearing up for our own must-win game. And, just as crucial, let's carry this mindset all the way through the year.

Rob Rohde:

I really want to stress the importance of self-care for all of us. Treating ourselves well is not a luxury, it is a strategic move. Just like an athlete prioritizes rest and recovery, we need to prioritize our own well-being. So, as we approach the end of the year, let's make self-care a key part of our playbook. Your assignment for today is to carefully select one of these self-care tips we just explored and try to integrate it into your routine. Whether it's a brisk walk or dedicating focused time to a hobby, or maybe incorporating gratitude, remember that self-care is a precious investment. It benefits not only yourself, but also all of those in your circle your family, your kids, your friends. Understand that by prioritizing your well-being, you are strategically positioning yourself to be successful in this upcoming year.

Rob Rohde:
